Yesterday Sony Mobile posted on their official blog which of their devices will be receiving the Android Marshmallow update.  The following Xperia devices will eventually be getting that sweet fluffy goodness:

  • Xperia Z5
  • Xperia Z5 Compact
  • Xperia Z5 Premium
  • Xperia Z4 Tablet
  • Xperia Z3+
  • Xperia Z3
  • Xperia Z3 Compact
  • Xperia Z3 Tablet Compact
  • Xperia Z2
  • Xperia Z2 Tablet
  • Xperia M5
  • Xperia C5 Ultra
  • Xperia M4 Aqua
  • Xperia C4

Sony noted in an asterisk that, “Software rollouts are a phased process – timing and availability will vary by market and/or operator. Most models supported but some operator/market exceptions will apply.

That last little tidbit of information italicized and bolded means that certain carrier-exclusive models will not get Marshmallow.  Yes, the Sony Xperia Z3v is in fact one of these exceptions.

My poor Sony Xperia Z3v.

I had a feeling that this might happen when I purchased it back in January, but was hopeful that something might change.  Just another reason to make sure you buy unlocked/international versions of devices!
